Altar Servers assist the priests and other liturgical ministers at Mass and other Sacraments. They MUST be mature enough to understand their responsibilities and to carry them out well and with appropriate reverence. And, as with all other ministers, altar servers must have received First Holy Communion!
If you would like to be a part of this special ministry, please complete the Altar Server Application and return it to the Parish Office. When you have studied the Altar Server Guidelines, and you are ready to be trained, please speak with Fr. Peter after Mass, call him at the Parish Office, 619-582-3716, ext. 103 or email: email@example.com or call Bonnie at the Parish Office 619-582-3716, ext. 102 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org and she will work with you to set up Altar Server Training with Fr. Peter to meet and go through what an Altar Server does. The training will include instruction on the Mass and its parts and their meaning, the various objects used in the liturgy (their names and use), and the various
functions of the server during the Mass.
After you have been trained and are ready to serve, you will be scheduled for the Mass time that is best for you and your family. When you serve, we ask you to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled Mass and be prepared to serve. Altar Servers respond to the prayers and dialogues of the priest along with the congregation and join in singing the hymns. The role of server is integral to the normal celebration of the Mass. Please know how important you are, and that our parish really needs you!
