Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men.  Matthew. 4:18

Rev. Msgr. Frederick J. Florek

Msgr. Fred was first a part of our parish when he came here as a young associate on February 14, 1968. That marks the day we became his “sweethearts” - a happy theme that is remembered each year through our annual Sweethearts Dance! He served here under 3 pastors; our founder, Msgr. Kraft; a Bishop, Bishop John Quinn; and an Irishman, Msgr. Sean Murray! He left here on June 30th, 1972 to serve under Msgr. Jim O’Donoghue at Our Mother of Confidence. During his priestly ministry he has built a church (St. Elizabeth Seton in Carlsbad), learned Spanish as pastor of a bi-lingual parish and been active in the Cursillo movement. He returned here as our beloved Shepherd in 1990 and recently celebrated his 40th anniversary of ordination!

He enjoys traveling, history and reading novels. He loves good food and good company. He looks forward to being with his family whenever the opportunity presents itself to “water his roots” and stay grounded in who he is and where he comes from.

As a priest, he finds great joy and satisfaction in journeying with individuals and families as they go through life; births and baptisms, first communions and graduations, marriages and family life with all its joys and struggles, to illnesses, loss and death; cherishing the support we offer to one another in Christ along the way.
