Marriage - The Living Sacrament |
|
For those preparing for marriage Congratulations on your engagement! And for seeking to take every opportunity to make your marriage the best it can be!
There is special grace and power within every couple God has joined together. It is not the priest who gives the Sacrament of Matrimony; he is only the chief witness. The bride and groom give it to each other.
Everything you do singly or together is a living out of your sacrament. Simple things like washing dishes, driving to work, struggling to make a living, raising a family, budgeting a small salary to meet big expenses - yes, these and all the other facets of life together, have power hidden within them to make you, and your marriage, holy. If, as a married couple, you can form a habit of looking at each other in a sacramental way - seeing the beauty of God in each other's souls - seeking to enhance that beauty by building up each other- mutually growing in the image of Jesus - then your Sacrament of Matrimony will bear the stamp of the living God.
