Child Baptism

Do you have an older child who has:

·         not been baptized?

·         been baptized in the Catholic faith but has not received formal catechesis and has not received the sacraments of initiation?

·         been baptized in another faith tradition and is seeking initiation into the Catholic faith?

Christian Initiation of Children is the faith formation process by which children who have reached the “age of reason,” 7 years old or more, who meet the above criteria are prepared to be fully received into the church through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and/or Eucharist).

When a child is old enough to understand at their level the meaning of being a Christian, we involve them directly in the preparation for joining the Catholic Faith.  This preparation has four components:

• Unbaptized children 10 years old or more are enrolled in religious education according to their regular grade level
• Children and their parents participate in a monthly Sunday morning session for Christian Initiation
• They participate in special rites along the way to affirm and strengthen their faith
• And they are fully initiated through Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil, in accordance with diocesan policy
