But now that faith has come ... For through faith you are all children of God in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:25 |

Adult Baptism |

Baptism is a sacrament through which we are called to follow Christ and be the person God intended us to be. The scriptures say it this way: “…you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people….” 1 Peter 2:9
Baptism is the “formal” beginning of each person’s journey into Christian discipleship. To be Christian is to strive to live by the teachings of Jesus, to accept his transforming love. The Church welcomes the newly-baptized into the body of Christ and the mission it shares.
We believe that adults need time to learn, to discern, and to embrace the call of Christ before plunging into the waters of baptism. God is present to us and touches us, God is calling us; through the beauty of a sunset, the care and concern of another, the delight of being in love and our desire to give of ourselves to other people. As Catholics, we see in all such experiences opportunities to deepen our relationship with God as the source of all goodness, the most faithful and loving friend, the one who has loved us first and whose Son laid down his life for us.
At St. Thérèse we offer adults seeking baptism true friendship by inviting them to join the Christian venture of encountering scripture; praying; worshiping; growing in faith; engaging in ministry; and discerning the call of discipleship in the catholic tradition. This journey toward initiation in the catholic church is known as the RCIA.
