Pray perseveringly; be attentive to prayer, & pray in a spirit of thanksgiving. Pray for us, too.  Colossians 4:2

Study and Prayer

Study and prayer are the two arms of spiritual growth.

Study increases our knowledge and understanding that we might better “grasp” the teachings of Christ and follow Him ever more faithfully.

Many people have chosen to seek knowledge rather than to live well, and they are often let astray and their lives come to very little--or nothing at all.
 –
Thomas à Kempis, The Imitation of Christ

Prayer “personalizes” our faith as it opens our mind and heart to God in a dynamic relationship with the living God through Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Those who live prayerfully are constantly ready to receive the breath of God,

and to let their lives be renewed and expanded.

Henri J. M. Nouwen, With Open Hands

Alone, study cannot duplicate this relationship which is at the heart of Christianity.  Nor can prayer without study enable us to fully respond to the call of discipleship.
