Becoming Catholic (RCIA)

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

  • Are you interested in learning about the Catholic Church?
  • Are you from another faith tradition and feel drawn to the Catholic way of life?
  • Are you unbaptized, and recognize the need for spirituality in your life?
  • Are you married to a Catholic and attend mass, but you just don't know how to move toward becoming one of the Catholic faithful?
  • Were you baptized Catholic, but never received any formal religious education?
  • Or a practicing Catholic who was never confirmed?

Then RCIA is the place for you. Every year, adults are welcomed into the Catholic Community through the RCIA process.

Sessions meet weekly on Tuesday evenings, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Ministry Center.  Please feel free to dress comfortably.  Spouses and friends welcome.  We ask that you complete an information sheet and bring it to our first meeting. For more information contact Dorothy Hulburt at the Ministry Center 619.286.4605.

Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC)

For children above the age of 8 who are “converting” to Catholicism; who need baptism, first reconciliation and/or first communion, there is a two year process.

  • First year - Children are enrolled in religious education according to their regular grade level.
  • Second year - Children, together with their parents participate in a quarterly Sunday morning session for Christian Initiation.*  This is for immediate preparation for the sacraments; children should also be attending their regular grade level religious education.
